Verifying Nexmo with a non VOIP number
Nexmo — like most services worth registering for — checks whether the number you enter belongs to a real mobile carrier. VOIP and internet-telephony numbers are commonly rejected at this step. Every number we issue is a genuine US carrier line, which is why they pass.

Good to know
The number is rented for the duration of one verification, not sold. If you need a second code for the same account later, reuse is supported on many services. For automated signups, the same Nexmo flow is available through our API.
